| International Scenario – European PET bottle recycling breaks new records. Pet core announced that in 2003, more PET bottles were collected and recycled than ever before. The number of European PET bales offered to the recycling markets jumped from 449,000 tones in 2002, to 612000 tones in 2003. This represents a growth rate of 36 percent. Trends in market outlets remain unchanged, with bottle-to-bottle recycling showing an increase from 8.1% in 2002, to 11.1% in 2003. Other RPET outlets : Polyester fiber 70.4%, Polyester sheet 7.5% and Strapping 7.6%. Exceptionally high growth rates were seen in Spain, Portugal, Hungary, Slovakia, The Baltic states and in Ireland. Virtually all other countries showed growth as well. Large increase were also observed in Germany and for the first time in many years: the United Kingdom, Germany & UK are also the countries contributing most to the increase of bottle export to China. |

The export of RPET rose from 33000 tons in 2002, to 136000 tons last year. “Over recent years, Europe has built as infrastructure which now has considerable expertise for the recycling of PET. Whilst there is nothing against free trade. The outlook for the coming years remains healthy. There is much growth potential in the new member states and it is very reassuring to see how mature collection countries such as Austria, Belgium, France, Italy and Switzerland, continue to collect more year after year. The fundamentals of such growth are based on commitments of beverage brands, PET stakeholder and above all committed citizens. Indian Scenario – In India trash chain that works upwards from trash pickers, who supply the used bottles to smaller plastic producing firms in the towns and cities across the country. Next the bunch is sent to Delhi and the other towns where they are crushed into flakes. At present in organized sector Appollo fiber, a unit of Reliance located at Hoshiarpur is having installed capacity of 100000 MT p.a. and going to increase

its capacity by 45,000 MT. It is estimated that 80,000 MT of PET bottles are trashed every year in the country and it is going to increase substantially. PET is most recycled plastic in the world. PET has certain inherent characteristic and that makes PET as the most important polymer in today’s world. In India as per the article published in the Economic Times, New Delhi dated Friday 11th March’05 the plastic market are growing.
